The Proud-Learned Man

man reading a book

There was a learned man who always took pride in his knowledge. Once he was talking to three fishermen. They knew him very well. So they decided to test his knowledge. They asked him a riddle to test his knowledge. The first fisherman asked, “What has hands but doesn’t clap?” They told him “If you can answer this then we will consider you as the most learned man.” The man kept thinking but could not find the answer to this riddle. He was mocked by them. The third fisherman told, “It’s a clock, it has hands, but it can’t clap.” The fishermen taught him a lesson not to think of others as illiterate.

Moral: Never underestimate anyone.
